November 16th: How to make the honeymoon last: Lessons from the trenches on creating harmonious and successful outsourcing engagements

Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver - Le Pavillon I and II, 791 West Georgia Street

Wednesday 5:00 - 8:00 pm

With all the intense media focus, overheated political rhetoric, and emerging global trends; the term “Outsourcing” has become for many people a part of the everyday lexicon. From operating call centers for major corporations to the manufacturing of kids’ toys, outsourcing is touching everyone’s life in one way or another! For some, outsourcing is a logical and cost-efficient process that allows companies to focus on what they do best; whereas for others, like Lou Dobbs, it is the main cause of what is going wrong in corporate America today! While trying to steer clear of the contentious political debate surrounding the issue, this presentation explores in-depth a common type of outsourcing related to IT applications development and maintenance, in which a company contracts out all or part of its information systems functions to one or more outside suppliers.

Presenter: Osama Aziz, Principal, Sierra Systems

As a speaker, Osama has a passion for distilling dry theoretical project management concepts into amusing allegories with practical, real-life scenarios that are both instructive and entertaining. Osama has been selected to deliver a symposium session during the Project World 2011 conference in Vancouver. He has also recently delivered a series of lectures and workshops to the management graduate students at the UBC Sauder School of Business and ISIS Research Center on project management practice, fundamentals and tools that were very well-received by both faculty members and students.
